One of our favorite games, and we are sure one of yours too, is Angry Birds. The game is back with an update. Thanks to XDA Member targett for pointing this out for us.

Here is the update notice from the Angry Birds site:

Good news! We have just released the first big update for Angry Birds on Android! Download Angry Birds version 1.4.2 from GetJar or Android Market to get all the latest levels and features!

Angry Birds Android now supports QVGA graphics, so owners of devices with this compact screen size should find the game running perfectly on their phones.

Also included is the episode The Big Setup, which pits the birds against the fiendish construction yard operated by the pigs. The total number of levels is now up to 195 on the Android platform.

So, go download the update for yourself, if you have never played Angry Birds then go get it on the Android Market and pick up the addiction! Also, don’t forget to post in the discussion thread.

Nearly A Half-Bushel Per Foot

Welcome through
Fred's Garden Gate! Well, it's too late
for this season—at least in Central Maine—but there's still time to
prepare and plan a very different way to grow potatoes next
season.

Early this Spring (2000), I ordered my Dark Red Norland
potatoes from Johnny's and decided I'd had enough of rows and rows of spuds taking up most of the
prime space in our veggie patch. So....I borrowed a concept from a distant
friend, highly refined it, and now grow them vertically! The up-side:
where 5 pounds of spud "seed" formerly planted about 40 feet of
row, now the same plants occupy a circular space 2-1/2 feet across by 36" tall. And considering the harvest rate, that cooks down to just
short of a bushel and a half for the space used! The only down-side
that I can see: the planting tends to dry out quicker than if
planted directly in the ground. Here's the deal:

Find yourself about ten feet of
36" wide "hog wire" that has wire spacing of 1" by 2",
then roll it into a vertical "cylinder" (now 3-feet tall) and
lace it together with either wire or synthetic cord.

Once laced securely, it's time to cut the openings
through which your potato "seed" will be inserted.
Each hole will be approximately 3" by 4" - just large enough to
push the "seed" through, and for the plant to grow through. I
arranged mine so there were four openings tall on the cylinder, and 10
openings on
each of the four tiers.

Stand this now completed cylinder on one end in the
full sun, and drive a stout stake outside on each side (at "9
O'clock" and "3 O'clock") to keep it standing on end.

The next step involves a wheelbarrow and some
elbow-grease: fill this wire enclosure right to the top with the freshest
compost or very high organic matter soil— not the usual stuff
("dirt") you usually grow your potatoes in!—you can get your
hands on, and slightly shake the cage a little to settle it down. I used
100% compost—a biologically hot-rot product using my own 21-day, no-turn

In 1989, Ott, who lives in Cordova, Alaska, experienced firsthand the devastating effects of the Exxon Valdex oil disaster. For the past two months, she's been traveling back and forth between Louisiana and Florida to gather information about what's really happening and share the lessons she learned about long-term illnesses and deaths of cleanup workers and residents. In late May, she began meeting people in the Gulf with symptoms like headaches, dizziness, sore throats, burning eyes, rashes and blisters that are so deep, they're leaving scars. People are asking, "What's happening to me?"

She says the culprit is almost two million gallons of Corexit, the dispersant BP is using to break up and hide the oil below the ocean's surface. "It's an industrial solvent. It's a degreaser. It's chewing up boat engines off-shore. It's chewing up dive gear on-shore. Of course it's chewing up people's skin. The doctors are saying the solvents are making the oil worse."

Texans wonder if they executed an innocent man

(CNN) -- A Texas state board is set Friday to revisit questions surrounding a controversial 2004 execution, with supporters of the man's family warning the panel is trying to bury its own critical review of the case.

Cameron Todd Willingham was executed in 2004 for a fire that killed his three daughters. Prosecutors argued that Willingham deliberately set the 1991 blaze -- but three reviews of the evidence by outside experts have found the fire should not have been ruled arson.

The last of those reports was ordered by the Texas Forensic Sciences Commission, which has been looking into Willingham's execution since 2008. But a September 2009 shake-up by Texas Gov. Rick Perry has kept that panel from reviewing the report, and the commission's new chairman has ordered a review of its operating rules. Critics say that may kill the probe.

"They are attempting permanently to keep the investigation from continuing and moving on, and I do believe it's because they don't like the direction the evidence is leading," Willingham's cousin, Pat Cox, said Thursday.

Even before we hear the first sales estimates, we can safely say that a Windows Phone 7 device will be in the hands of a rather large user base. How do I know that? Well, Microsoft announced it will be giving a free Phone 7 device to every employee – all 90,000+ of them.

Although this gesture will come at quite a cost for Microsoft, I always believe that all companies should try to make evangelists out of their employees, and what better way to do that than to hand them a free, bleeding-edge device to use?

Of course, Microsoft might want to make sure that edge isn’t bleeding too heavily, because not even their own employees will want to use a buggy device. However, from what we’ve heard about Windows Phone 7 lately, it’s definitely usable.

For now, though, judging by their tweets (above), the folks from Microsoft are definitely excited about their new phone. If you’re working at Microsoft and haven’t heard the news, you might want to read this internal email from Microsoft’s Andy Lees, which explains that the “process will vary based on your market, your carrier, and your launch date” and promises “more information closer to launch.”

We knew Nexus One was going to be leaving; but given the slow sales history, I was honestly expecting the phone to be around for another month at the earliest. According to Google, if you want a Nexus One, you better buy now.

A Google spokeswoman told The Times on Tuesday that the Mountain View, Calif., company expects to sell out of its remaining supply by the end of the month but wouldn’t say how many units it received.

After that, she is history. Well, for the American general public that is. Nexus One will still be available in other countries. Developers of all nationalities will also be able to purchase the device through their Android Market developer account.

Motorola Droid X And HTC Incredible To Ship In August

Verizon seems to be having some bittersweet moments recently. While the Droid Incredible and the recently-released Droid X have been met with much demand, the bad news is that the carrier has been having trouble keeping up with demand for the devices (which is a nice problem to have, actually). According to Verizon's website, folks who want to get hold of the HTC Droid Incredible and the Motorola Droid X will have to wait until August 3rd. Considering the Droid Incredible's track record of being delayed, this probably isn't too surprising to most folks, but the delay to the Droid X will probably put a frown to many faces out there. Hopefully the shortage won't happen again in the future.

The idea is simple.

Pledge to donate fully 1/3 of your newly minted U.S. Government Stimulus Rebate check to the Ron Paul campaign.

One third is the equivalent of the taxes that you would have paid the IRS (Federal, State and local) for this money. What better way to spend this money then to donate it to the only Presidential candidate that will make fiscal conservation a "Day One Priority".

Building an empire is busy, expensive work. But its unnecessary work. The USA has no need of an empire when we can't even take care of our own.

When money is thin at home, we cut unnecessary things such as Cable T.V. and eating at restaurants. Smart people don't run to the bank for a loan so they can buy dinner at McDonalds or even taking a vacation.

Your Government will be going to the bank (China) for a loan to pay out these "rebate" checks. Not such a good idea.

This is why I suggest donating a portion, 1/3 to the Ron Paul campaign.

Dear,

I am writing you to plea for your help.

I would vote for any candidate that will help us end the war and help us end poverty. I’m all for lasting peace and prosperity for a change. I would vote for any candidate that would end the illegal income taxation, end the privately owned Federal Reserve monopoly, and end the inflation tax that is eating away at our savings, costing us more interest on loans, more at the pumps and the grocery store. I would give much of my hard earned money to a candidate that has always stood up for Americans and continues to fight for our lives and rights here at home. I would without question vote for a candidate that has never swayed; flip-flopped, never voted to raise taxes, voted against this Iraq invasion and against the Amnesty bill. A lawyer arrived home late, after a very tough day trying to get a stay of execution for a client who was due to be hanged for murder at midnight.

His last minute plea for clemency to the governor had failed and he was feeling worn out and depressed.

As soon as he walked through the door at home, his wife started on him about, 'What time of night is this to be getting home? Where have you been? Dinner is cold and I'm not reheating it.' She went on and on and on.

Too shattered to play his usual role in this familiar ritual, he poured himself a large whiskey and headed off for a long, shower, pursued by the predictable sarcastic remarks! as he dragged himself up the stairs.

While he was in the shower, the phone rang. The wife answered and was told that her husband's client, James Wright, had been granted a stay of execution after all. Wright would not be hanged tonight.

Okay boys and girls, here's a new thriller for ya. Dubya is talking about giving us all a nice healthy "save the economy & love your government" check for a few hundred dollars each. This money will almost surely not come out of anyone else's budget, and since it is at the behest of Ben Bernanke you can bet that Dubya will gladly take out a new loan "in our behalf" to pay us that money to stimulate the economy.

So in essence, we will be devaluing our money to give ourselves a check. I dunno about you, but as far as I know there is only one peaceful way to stop this kind of monkeying with the economy. As a point of fact I didn't have the money before they printed it, so I'm no worse off...other than the devluation of the rest of my resources, so I've decided that I will give whatever I get to the Ron Paul Revolution. I will either give it directly, or use it to buy supplies to inform people what is really going on. I find it semi-amusing that the same money they are going to "counterfit" to give us is the same money I will use to try to stop them from"counterfeiting" more.

If you don't hear from me again after they start issuing checks it will be becaue my wife skinned me alive (because she isn't fully convinced about Dr. Paul yet). Realistically though any heartache I get from not personally spending the newly minted money stolen from all of us will be nothing compared to the blood, sweat, and tears of the patriots that have stood against tyranny on our behalf before.

Vote for Paul with your hearts, your minds, your enthusiasm, your sweat, and your wallets. If we can reach enough people we can take back our stolen country.

I believe we will see the Democrats destroy each other in the coming months. With the Clinton “pull no punches” campaign and the lack of experience from Obama, this can be the only outcome.
People will really start to see that the mainstream GOP candidates offer only platitudes and bandaids for this injured and hemorrhaging country.

Ron Paul will become seen as the only candidate to offer real promise to what ails us. His record is proof of truth.

People may not agree with every thing he says, but is there a candidate out there that the people do completely agree with? Is there a candidate that doesn’t run around saying what they think you want to hear?
Today, Romney is telling Michigan what he thinks they want to hear. If you listen to his words, you will discover that he really has no plan. He just says that he plans on working to find a solution.

It was the summer of 1787. The Constitutional Convention was about to take place in Philadelphia. And George Washington, the former commander-in-chief of the Continental Army was planning to stay at home in Mount Vernon. Only after hearing the compelling call of the people was he persuaded to make the trip.

And how could he not? Not only did Washington attend the convention, but he later accepted the calls to be our first president.

Can there be any doubt that Ron Paul is who this country needs? A man of the utmost integrity and a man of humility. But most importantly, a man with the right ideas - of tolerance, of love, of freedom, and - of course - of the people.

When I first heard of Ron Paul, I dismissed him. He wasn't a name I knew, and I thought he was little more than a small-time candidate who would disappear in a few weeks. After I heard about the money he was making online, I decided to take a look. What I found impressed me. Instead of a candidate who is just trying to maintain the status quo of overspending and being the world police, we have a candidate who wants to move away from that. His goals and the fact that he stays true to his ideals is completely different from the other candidates out there who are nothing but liars trying to guess the magic pass phrase that will gather everyone to their banner so they can win and get started forgetting about everything they promised to do.

This sums up what many people feel when they first hear of Ron Paul.

Are you willing to wear your Ron Paul shirt to work?

I have had an interesting response from co-workers when I wear my Ron Paul for President tee shirt.
Some give me a hard time for wearing a political shirt. Of course, the interesting thing is..they don't know its political until I tell them who Ron Paul is.

Then some respond with the old "Lesser of two evils!" statement or the "I don't vote because it never does any good!" statement.

To this I say "Check out Ron Paul. You may be surprised."

I have had two very promising responses. One in particular sticks out. C.Schultz, after questioning my shirt, took a look at Ron Paul online and discovered a worthwhile candidate. Someone worth supporting.

Now, whether or not his support is monetary, doesn't really matter. What matters is the fact that he will now tell others about Ron Paul. Specifically the Ron Paul message.

Wearing Ron Paul clothing is a great way to spread the message. Its one of the most important ways to introduce people to the idea. The idea that there is a candidate that actually wants to address the damage that has been done to our great country.

What a day! I am humbled and inspired, grateful and thrilled for this vast outpouring of support.

On just one day, in honor of the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party, the new American revolutionaries brought in $6.04 million, another one-day record. The average donation was $102; we had 58,407 individual contributors, of whom an astounding 24,915 were first-time donors. And it was an entirely voluntary, self-organized, decentralized, independent effort on the internet. Must be the "spammers" I keep hearing about!

The establishment is baffled and worried, and well they should be. They keep asking me who runs our internet fundraising and controls our volunteers. To these top-down central planners, a spontaneous order like our movement is science-fiction. But you and I know it's real: as real as the American people's yearning for freedom, peace, and prosperity, as real as all the men and women who have sacrificed for our ideals, in the past and today.

And how neat to see celebrations all across the world, with Tea Parties from France to New Zealand. This is how we can spread the ideals of our country, through voluntary emulation, not bombs and bribes. Of course, there were hundreds in America.

As I dropped in on a cheering, laughing crowd of about 600 near my home in Freeport, Texas, I noted that they call us "angry." Well, we are the happiest, most optimistic "angry" movement ever, and the most diverse. What unites us is a love of liberty, and a determination to fix what is wrong with our country, from the Fed to the IRS, from warfare to welfare. But otherwise we are a big tent.

Said the local newspaper (http://www.thefacts.com/story.lasso?): "The elderly sat with teens barely old enough to vote. The faces were black, Hispanic, Asian and white. There was no fear in their voices as they spoke boldly with each other about the way the country should be. Held close like a deeply held secret, Paul has brought them out of the disconnect they feel between what they know to be true and where the country has been led."

Thanks also to the 500 or so who braved the blizzard in Boston to go to Faneuil Hall. My son Rand told me what a great time he had with you.

A few mornings ago on LewRockwell.com, I saw a YouTube of a 14-year-old boy that summed up our whole movement for me. This well-spoken young man, who could have passed in knowledge for a college graduate, told how he heard our ideas being denounced. So he decided to Google. He read some of my speeches, and thought, these make sense. Then he studied US foreign policy of recent years, and came to the conclusion that we are right. So he persuaded his father to drop Rudy Giuliani and join our movement.

All over America, all over the world, we are inspiring real change. With the wars and the spying, the spending and the taxing, the inflation and the credit crisis, our ideas have never been more needed. The man thinks this is terrible because they have emphasized his wooden leg and so he writes a letter of complaint. A week goes by and he receives another parcel a nd a note which says:

Now the man is really upset since the have gone from emphasizing his wooden leg to emphasizing his bald head so again he writes the company another nasty letter of complaint. A few days later he gets a small parcel and a note, which reads:

The horror of blimps

Last week while travelling I stopped at a Zany Brainy store and saw that they had a blimp for sale. It's called Airship Earth, and it's a great big balloon with a map of the Earth on it, and two propellors hanging from the bottom. You blow up the balloon with helium put batteries in it, and you have a radio controll indoor blimp.

I'd seen these things for sale in Sharper Image catalogs for $60-$75. At Zany Brainy it was on clearance for $15. What a deal!

Last night my wife was playing tennis and it was just my daughter and I at home. I bought a small helium tank from a party store, and last night we put the blimp together.

Let me tell you, it's quite a blimp. It's huge. The balloon has like a 3 ft diameter.

We blew it up with the tank attacched the gondola with the propellors, and put in batteries.

Then we balanced the blimp for neutral bouyancy with this putty that came with it, so it hangs in the air by itself neither rising nor falling.

It was easy and fun, and then I blew up another balloon and made Mickey Mouse helium voices for my daughter.

My three year old girl loved it. We flew the blimp all over the house, terrorized the dog, attacked the fish tank, and the controls were so easy my daughter could fly.

Let's face it, blimps are fun.

Alas, the fun had to end and my daughter had to go to sleep. I left the blimp floating in my office downstairs, my wife came home, and we went to bed, and slept the sleep of the righteous.

A 90-year-old man went to his doctor for his quarterly check-up. The doctor asked him how he was feeling and the 90-year-old said, "Things are great and I've never felt better. I now have a 23-year-old bride who is pregnant with my child. So what do you think about that?"

The doctor considered his question for a moment and then began. "I have an older friend, much like you, who is an avid hunter and never misses a season. One day when he was setting off to go hunting, he was in a bit of a hurry and accidentally picked up his walking cane instead of his gun. The USPS and UPS decided to have a canoe race on the Missouri River. Both teams practiced long and hard to reach their peak performance before the race. On the big day, the UPS team won by a mile.

The USPS, very discouraged and depressed, decided to investigate the reason for the crushing defeat. A Management Team made up of senior management was formed to investigate and recommend appropriate action. Their conclusion was that the UPS team had 8 people rowing and 1 person steering. The USPS team had 8 people steering and 1 person rowing.

So USPS management hired a consulting company and paid them a large amount of money for a second opinion. The consultants advised that too many people were steering the boat, while not enough people were rowing.

To prevent another loss to UPS, the USPS rowing team's management structure was totally reorganized to 4 Steering supervisors, 3 Area Steering Superintendents and 1 Assistant Superintendent Steering Manager. They also implemented a new performance system that would give the 1 person rowing the boat greater incentive to work harder. It was called the, "Voice of the Employee Program," with meetings and dinners for the Management Team and free pens for the rower. There was discussion of getting new paddles, canoes and other equipment, extra vacation days for practices and bonuses for the Management Team. In the end, the only thing that was implemented was the bonuses for the Management Team. The next year the UPS team won by two miles!

Humiliated, USPS management laid off the rower for poor performance, halted development of a new canoe, sold the paddles, and canceled all capital investments for new equipment. The money saved was distributed to the Management Team as bonuses and the next year's racing team was outsourced to India.

We were dressed and ready to go out for the New Years Eve Party. We
turned on a night light, turned the answering machine on, covered our
pet parakeet and put the cat in the backyard. We phoned the local cab
company and requested a taxi. The taxi arrived and we opened the front
door to leave the house. The cat we put out in the yard, scoots back
into the house. We didn't want the cat shut in the house because she
always tries to eat the bird. My wife goes out to the taxi, while I went
inside to get the cat. The cat runs upstairs, with me in hot pursuit.
Waiting in the cab, my wife doesn't want the driver to know that the
house will be empty for the night. So, she explains to the taxi driver
that I will be out soon, "He's just going upstairs to say goodbye to my
mother." A few minutes later, I get into the cab. "Sorry I took so
long," I said, as we drove away. "That stupid bitch was hiding under the
bed. Had to poke her with a coat hanger to get her to come out! She
tried to take off, so I grabbed her by the neck. Then, I had to wrap her
in a blanket to keep her from scratching me. But it worked! I hauled her
fat ass downstairs and threw her out into the back yard!"

We've all heard about people having guts or balls. But do you really know the difference between them? In an effort to keep you informed, the definition for each is listed below...

GUTS - is arriving home late after a night out with the guys, being met by your wife with a broom, and having the guts to ask: "Are you still cleaning, or are you flying somewhere?"

BALLS - is coming home late after a night out with the guys, smelling of perfume and beer, lipstick on your collar, slapping your wife on the butt and having the balls to say: "You're next."

A Montana cowboy was overseeing his herd in a remote mountainous pasture when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced out of a dust cloud towards him.

The driver, a young man in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes, Ray Ban sunglasses and YSL tie, leans out the window and asks the cowboy, "If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, will you give me a calf?"

The cowboy looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, "Sure, Why not?"

The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects it to his Singular RAZR V3 cell phone, and surfs to a NASA page on the Internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite navigation system to get an exact fix on his location which he then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo.

The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg, Germany.

Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot that the image has been processed and the data stored.

He then accesses a MS-SQL database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with email on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, receives a response.

Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report on his hi-tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet printer and finally turns to the cowboy and says, "You have exactly 1,586 cows and calves."

"That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves," says the cowboy.

He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on amused as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car.

Then the cowboy says to the young man, "Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my calf?"

The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, "Okay, why not?"

You're a Congressman for the U.S. Government", says the cowboy.

"Wow! That's correct," says the yuppie, "but how did you guess that?"

"No guessing required." answered the cowboy. "You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked. You tried to show me how much smarter than me you are; and you don't know a thing about cows...this is a herd of sheep.
